<p>When confronted with serious fiscal issues that threatened its very survival, the First Parish Church of Newbury, Massachusetts, founded in 1635, decided to part with the weathercock that had sat atop the steeple since 1772.  We were chosen to serve as agent for the church with the result being the sale of the vane to the MFA Boston.</p>

<p><strong>Maker/Origin:</strong> Attributed to Thomas Drowne (1715-1796), Newbury, Massachusetts, c. 1772</p>
<p>Gilded, molded and sheet copper with blown glass eyes and iron rod.</p>
<p><strong>Dimensions:</strong> Height 32&#8243;, Length 46&#8243;</p>
<p><strong>Condition:</strong> Minor denting and early repairs/reinforcements.  Mid 20th c. re-gilding over earlier layers of gilding and sizing.</p>
<p><strong>Provenance:</strong> The First Parish Church of Newbury, Massachusetts</p>
