“M-y Kitchen” Firkin withShaker History (SOLD)
A small blue/teal firkin with the inscription “M-y Kitchen” on the side and the lid stamped: “C. & A. Wilder/SO. Hingham/Mass.”

Maker / Origin: C. & A. Wilder, Hingham, Massachusetts
Medium: Pine staves and bottom, ash handle and hoop with large copper tacks and blue/teal paint.
Miscellaneous: Illustrated and discussed by Sprigg and Johnson in Shaker Woodenware, Vol. 1, pg. 153. Acquired by Faith Andrews and Edward Deming Andrews directly from a Shaker community sometime between 1920-1950, they explain that the letters M and Y show up on other Shaker items and may be an abbreviation relating to the Ministry. It would have been purchased outside the community and not made by the Shakers.
