Medium: Pine with the original polychrome decoration. Iron hanging plates restored.
Miscellaneous: Small signs similar to this one were used on horse drawn wagons by medicine salesmen or Doctors. In the later half of the 19th century, it became popular to market herbal medicines originally used by the Native Americans hence the image of the Indian. This piece may have had such a use by "Dr. Whitcher" due to its' small size. An American rarity.
